3 design works that reflect the concept of contemporary Thai design
We are proud to present three product models, each crafted under its own unique design concept. These works have been submitted to the Demark 2025 competition – an award that celebrates excellence in Thai design. Beyond expressing the brand’s identity, all three creations meet practical needs in everyday life while showcasing the potential of Thai design on an international stage.
The Design Excellence Award (Demark) is a symbol of quality, certifying the outstanding design of Thai products. It helps differentiate them, enhance their value, and drive Thai products toward recognition in the global market.
Design Concept
The WENDY chair originated from the concept of addressing the mobile phone usage behavior of the new generation in public spaces. We aimed to design a piece that offers both convenience and personal space, with a focus on a simple form and compact size. At the same time, special attention was given to the signature wood-bending details of our brand, allowing users to lean back comfortably without fatigue while using their phones.
Most recently, we have expanded on this concept by drawing inspiration from nature — both “ocean waves” and “sand waves.” These inspirations are expressed through the fluid, curving patterns of the backrest, combined with contemporary crafted fabrics and advanced printing technology, capturing the rhythmic flow of water in a lively and dynamic way.
Altogether, this design blends the original focus on comfort and usability with the calming essence of nature, creating a relaxing atmosphere that connects users more closely with nature in every dimension of the design.
Techniques
The wooden structure is shaped using advanced bending technology to achieve seamless strength, enhanced by decorative patterns created with CNC machinery. This allows for complex, dimensional, and finely detailed designs comparable to craftsmanship, while maintaining industrial standards.
Design Concept
Chudy began with the challenge of bending hardwood into the smallest possible curve, combined with the design concept of a space-saving stool in a minimal and simple form. It is designed to meet everyday functional needs with a slim, lightweight structure that is easy to move, making it especially suitable for spaces that require flexibility.
Techniques
Crafted from hardwood bent at an angle of up to 29 degrees, shaped with precision and meticulous craftsmanship to achieve a slender yet durable structure.
Design Concept
“Miko” comes from 巫女 (female shamans or priestesses in Japanese rituals), symbolizing beauty with a functional essence similar to ceremonial tools. The chair is designed with a rounded wooden frame free of sharp edges, carrying a sense of simple elegance. Its curved backrest is angled to support the spine for added comfort, while the slightly forward-slanted armrests offer a natural grip. The tapered legs enhance the overall softness and refinement of the design.
Techniques
In the early development stage, we considered bending laminated veneer wood, but ultimately challenged ourselves by using solid wood bent through the steam-bending technique — a core strength and signature technology of our workshop. This approach preserves the natural quality of the wood, achieving a seamless, lightweight, and durable form. Both the backrest and armrests are crafted from a single piece of bent wood, delivering a smooth surface and refined tactile experience.
